There is something about reflecting on the passing of time. I will admit, regarding the topic of retirement, I AM the boy who cried “wolf”. It just didn’t seem like a complete day without some sort of teaching. So, I kept taking teaching assignment/gig upon teaching assignment/gig through these last 11 years when I was claimed to be retired.
Writing
As time passed, I realized I wanted to have some period in my life I could call my own. In planning what a full retirement day could look like, I knew I would be knitting, house keeping, walking, etc. but I did not expect the love I have for writing to come flooding back. And, so here I am in FULL retirement welcoming Hollyknits 2.0, my new online space, the ‘2.0’ being the second time on WordPress. And, if you’re wondering where is the original Hollyknits blog? It is in safely in cyberspace heaven and deep in my heart.
The Journey Continues
The journey of knitting continues. As does the constant and continual thoughts on the subject. Here is where we can chat about such things.
There are lots of yarn in my stash. A lot being defined as many skeins of the same to complete a sweater, tunic, or dress. There are many such lots, perhaps 5 years worth, if time can measure productivity. Until now, they have been only dreams. “One day, I will get to that”, said the voice. Most of my lots of yarn have intentions attached to them. So, the excitement is building as I see opportunity. Once knitted, I can get these exciting garments to YOU! Do you have an inner voice that talks to you about knitting?
What about the scraps? Scraps being defined as bits of leftover yarn from projects already worked. What to do with them? Ideas are abundant. Other knitters’ ideas? I love reading and seeing what creations come about.
Photography. Always a challenge. Here, you will see trial and error of such efforts. My goal is to reveal the best of the garment that I have just completed. Place the tripod high or low? Angled or straight? Morning or evening? Inside or outside? Do you have tips and tricks for such? Is lighting even important to you? Believe you me, I’ve wrangled with all of these thoughts.
Fashion tips, perhaps. My goal is to wear what I knit. I am beginning to realize that is not everyone’s goal. What is your goal? For me, the project is not done until it is paired within my wardrobe.
Then, wear.

Shelf of Memories
As I sit here in my ‘office’, I am literally staring at a shelf representing time passing. From student (thinking symbolically, the beautiful painting depicting the patience Mrs. Graf had with me) to full collection of Vogue Knitting Magazines (30+ years) stored carefully and lovingly. Of course, they are in acid free boxes and continue to have easy access. Those black notebooks are ideas and notes taken and collected through the years. I am always so fearful of throwing out notes I might one day want, again. Oh, and cannot forget Sally2, my second iphone tripod, tool now utilized to share my knitting with you.
Positive or Otherwise
Perhaps we think of the energy of our youth, we feel different than we once did. Perhaps, our health is not once what it was. Our shape changes. Perhaps, the choices you make in what you knit continue, the appeal of continued style is important to you. Perhaps, you are choosing to knit for others rather than yourself. What is it that you think about regarding knitting and age? Is there even a correlation? If so, how?
